The Military Museums

10:30 a.m. | 4520 Crowchild Tr. S.W.

One of Calgary’s largest ceremonies so getting there early is recommended. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Some parking available in the field east of the Parade Square, with overflow at the Flames Community Arena to the south.

 

Field of Crosses Memorial Project

10:45 a.m. | Memorial Dr. N.W. between Third St. and Centre St. (also known as Sunnyside Bank Park)

Thousands of crosses are erected every year to honour southern Alberta soldiers who died in combat. A flag-raising ceremony happens at sunrise with the ceremony starting at 10:45 a.m. There is public parking at the west end of the park.

 

Central Memorial Park

10:00 a.m. | 1221 Second St. S.W.

The service is held at the cenotaph of Calgary’s oldest park and starts at 10:00 a.m. The Calgary Highlanders Infantry Regiment attend this service among others in the city.

 

Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

10:30 a.m. | 1415 14th Ave. N.W.

Auditorium doors open at 9:30 a.m., ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude at 11:45 a.m.

 

Aero Space Museum of Calgary

10:30 a.m. | 4629 McCall Way N.E.

Service begins at 10:30 a.m. but seating is limited so arriving early is strongly recommended. The museum stays open until 4:00 p.m. and admission is by donation.

 

Battalion Park

10:30 a.m. | 3001 Signal Hill Dr. S.W.

The fourth year for this service and organizers say it will be big as 2015 marks 100 years since troops were deployed from this site. The 90-minute service starts at 10:30 a.m.

 

Baltun Nur Mosque

2:30 p.m. | 4353 54 Ave. N.E.

Hundreds of Muslims will participate in a special ceremony at the mosque to honour soldiers and their families. The event will feature making a human poppy.

 

Kerby Centre

10:50 a.m. | 1133 Seventh Ave. S.W.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. with the service starting at 10:50 a.m. in the gymnasium. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will follow the service.

 

Canadian Pacific

10:30 a.m. | 7550 Ogden Dale Rd. S.E.

Canadian Pacific honours more than 33,000 CP employees who served in World War I and World War II. The 2015 ceremony will be held at CP’s new Memorial Square built last year to honour the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. Parking will be available at the lot by the 69th Ave. S.E. and Ogden Dale Rd. S.E. entrance.

 

Calgary International Airport

10:30 a.m. | 2000 Airport Rd. N.E.

A large ceremony for travellers and anyone else who wants to pay tribute. Attended by Calgary Police Services, RCMP, Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Emergency Medical Services, Royal Air Force and many others. Ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. with a second shorter service for airport employees and travellers at 10:40 a.m.

 

Royal Canadian Legions

Many branches of the Royal Canadian Legion in and around Calgary host ceremonies.

 

Burnsland Cemetery Tours

2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. | 28 Ave. & Spiller Rd. S.E.

Tours honour the Canadian Military and RCMP. Meet at the Galloway House, on the east side of Union Cemetery. Vehicle entrance is off Spiller Rd. S.E.
