“Wonka” Tracking For $35M Debut Weekend As it opens in over 4,000 theaters, including IMAX and other premium formats, Timothee Chalamet’s “Wonka” is expected to make $35 million domestically. It would be the young actor’s second-biggest opening, behind 2021’s $41 million pandemic film “Dune.” Paul King, the director of “Paddington,” made $43.2 million last week in thirty-two foreign markets. That global reach will grow this weekend with the U.S. launch. The film’s $125 million production budget is a solid start, but how it performs in the following weekends will tell the story. Rotten Tomatoes rated the film 83 percent (7.4/10).
